Message from the President of LifeCanada
June 21, 2002
Very good news: Bill C-56 will not be voted on (third and final reading) before the fall, at the earliest! Thanks to everyone who has been praying and working on this issue so important for the protection of human embryos.
The Commons is going into summer recess today. The bill has not come out of committee yet, and the committee is still in the process of calling and hearing from witnesses as it goes through the bill clause-by-clause.
We should not do nothing until the final vote, however. Please continue to pray, and contact your MP; send a copy of your correspondence to the Prime Minister and Minister of Health (Hon. Anne McLellan). You can get their email addresses from the federal government at 1-800-622-6232 or write to House of Commons, Parliament Buildings, Ottawa ON K1A 0A6.
In related news, the National Post today has an important story about a discovery concerning the versatility of adult stem cells. It appears the latter may be every bit as adaptable as embryonic stem cells, and without the problem of genetic rejection associated with embryonic cells being used for other humans. The net result, as even pro-embryonic research advocates confess, may be to take away the argument about the need for embryonic stem cells and related research! The new discovery still has to be confirmed by other research, but it's really promising and extremely significant.
Have a great summer. God bless you and yours.
God save the children!
Peter Ryan, President
