Canadians Embrace Life!
By Jakki Jeffs
Some very heartening news indeed! You know how we have looked at
our federal and provincial governments time and time again and wondered
how their public policies are in such contradiction to our beliefs?
Well, these policies do not just contradict our beliefs but the
beliefs of almost two-thirds of Canadians as well!
The public policies of our federal and provincial governments are
completely out of line with Canadian thinking on destructive embryonic
stem cell research, protection of human life before birth, informed
consent for women having abortions, parental notification for minor
children considering abortion, and public funding of abortion on
demand. (See Joanne’s article, “We are not alone: Canadians
polled on life issues” on p.1.) Our beliefs are mainstream
— well what do you know!
Our next job is to ensure that this important information is spread
across the country, to our local community hospitals, churches,
schools, groups, medical and legal professionals, and municipal,
provincial, and federal representatives. This will be a huge educational
project, one in which we must all do our part. Your national board
will consider the best possible way to help you to get this information
out, and we welcome your suggestions on how to make this project
a success.
Take great comfort, as I do, from these results, and use the information
from our poll to assist in your educational efforts. We are on our
way — our little office is jumping; our office manager, Karen
Young, and executive director, Carroll Rees, are gradually getting
us into shape; Barbara McAdorey, our newsletter editor, continues
to produce the very informative LifeCanada News; and we have set
some wonderful goals for the next few years. Your national board
members continue to be a source of unity, love, laughter, talent,
and support. How can we fail to gain protection for all human life
with a team like ours, from sea to shining sea? God bless Canada!
Pray for us as we do for you.
